July 31st, 2009, "Beauty of Chaos" 30"x20"

$200.00
"Beauty of Chaos" 30"x20"
Good morning. I was in a rare mood when I painted this one a few nights ago. Didn't know if I would post this one or not. It's a little "darker" than work I usually do. But, I decided to post it because it is somewhat interesting to me and has a certain quality of it's own. Emotions will come out in a painting if you use the right technique. You can see the energy used to put the paint down. If your interested in purchasing any of my work, please feel free to email me at
chadlubbers@gmail.com.

I'm working on a big project for the South Dakota Symphony for the next few nights. So I'll be delaying any new work until Monday. I'm really excited about this project. Since the work is part of a marketing campaign, I'm waiting until the campaign is underway before I post any photos. But I can tell you...it's pretty cool! I'm excited to have the chance to work on this piece for the Symphony and look forward to seeing it out in public. So, watch next week for my "Super Secret" project. I'll be posting photos and info about the work soon.

Thanks for checking in! Have a great weekend everyone!

July 30th, 2009. "Ardore" 30"x20" SOLD

$200.00 SOLD
Hi everyone. Today's painting is titled "Ardore", 30"x20" acrylic on canvas. An aggressive fluid pour with deep color and high constrast. This one looks great in any of the settings I've placed it in. Love the way this one turned out. If interested, please email me at chadlubbers@gmail.com.

I'd also like to thank all of you who have sent me emails in the past couple of weeks. I've received kind words and encouragement from people all across the country. Some fellow artist, some art fans and of course my friends and family. Although my blog has only been up for a month, it's getting more visitors every day. Your comments and messages mean so much to me.

I knew that starting a daily painting blog would be a lot of work. But knowing that people are checking in every day to see what I've posted lets me know that my work is being noticed and enjoyed. Big thanks to ALL of you!

Do what you love and everything else will fall into place.

July 29th, 2009 "Horizon" 30"x20"

$200.00
Good day art fans. Today's painting is titled "Horizon". 30"x20" acrylic on canvas. Used a lot of fluid motion technique in this one. The blue and tan make a great color combination. The tones I'm getting from this fluid technique are very interesting. It's an unpredictable technique to say the least. The paint doesn't always do what I want it to, but when it does work the outcome can be outstanding. If you're interested in this painting, please email me at chadlubbers.gmail.com.

July 28th, 2009. "Animated Thoughts"

$400.00
Today's painting is a large 48"x24" acrylic on canvas titled "Animated Thoughts". Deep oranges and black with white rays created some great contrast in this painting. I'm starting to use fluid techniques more in my backgrounds now. And I'm getting some really nice effects with pours on top of a wet surface. I like the motion in these paintings. If interested, contact me at chadlubbers@gmail.com.

If you've followed my work in the past, you may remember a series of paintings I produced with trees in them. I'm starting another small series of trees this week. Look for them popping up here next week as I finish them.

Thanks for following along!

July 27th, 2009. "Green Ray" 36"x 18"

$200.00
Happy Monday art fans. I took a break over the weekend and spent time at the Sioux Falls Air Show with family. Although I did paint, I didn't post over the weekend. Well, it's time to get back on track. Let's start the week off with today's painting titled "Green Ray". This work combined some different techniques. I used a fluid pour to achieve the green, brown and yellow tones in the background. Then added the free handed swirls. Really like this affect! More of these to come for sure. This has become everyones favorite at the Lubbers home. If you're interested in purchasing this work, please contact me at chadlubbers@gmail.com.

Have a great week, and see you all tomorrow!

July 24th, 2009, "Fandango" 30"x40"

$400.00
Today's painting is titled "Fandango". 30"x40" acrylic on canvas. I'm really caught up in the vertical plank thing now. I love the way they can blend together and all the different color combinations I can use. On the other half of the painting, I glazed in a variety of base colors, then pulled a top layer to get me favorite rustic wood look. I like the weathered look and the texture. Please see my posts below of room pics and optional horizontal views. If interested in this work, email me at chadlubbers@gmail.com.

July 23rd, 2009. "Garden Gate"

$200.00
"Garden Gate" 20"x 30", acrylic on canvas. I went with a more subtle approach to color with this painting. Toned down the color a bit to give it a more calming affect. I'm starting to use the free handed swirls more now. I just can't stay away from it. You can see the motion and energy that it takes to create the lines. Like most of the techniques I use to lay down the paint, there's a fine line between controlling the paint, and just letting do what it wants to do. In the case with my swirls, I want to pour the paint fast to get the look and feel of motion but still control it enough to add to the composition of the work. Depending on my mood that day, this technique can create subtle relaxing loops, or a burst of energetic lines and splashes that's hard to contain. Sometimes having a bad day can release great art onto the canvas!:)

Please feel free to post your comments! Subscribe with your email in the right column for daily updates. And thanks to everyone who checks in daily! See you tomorrow. I'll be posting a large 30"x 40" that I'm finishing today.

July 22nd, 2009, "Sundance" 20"x30", Acrylic on canvas

$200.00
Today's painting titled "Sundance" is a 20x30 acrylic on canvas. The combination of pulled horizontal lines and the free white swirl gives this painting an interesting feel. I'm going to expand on this idea more in the next few weeks. I like to ad different colors to the swirl, then mask and drag transparent layers on top. Really fun stuff.

$250.00 SOLD
Today's painting is titled "Turchino". I wanted to do a painting with a lot of blue. I like the yellow/orange with blues combination. In this painting, I let the blue run and do the work on it's own. Really like the way this one turned out. A little different from what I've been producing in the last few weeks.

July 16th, 2009, "Carmel Planks" 36"x18"

"Carmel Planks"

Today's painting is a 36"x 18" acrylic abstract on canvas. I wanted to create a rustic texture with the paint. I used my favorite sienna colors with a touch of greens and blues to get the look of old weathered wood. The elements can create beautiful colors and textures over time. I imagined an old wooden building or sign that was once painted in vibrant colors. Over time the rain, snow, wind and sun created an even more beautiful scene of natural tones.

"Coperta" room view. SOLD

July 15th, 2009 SOLD

"Coperta", 48"x24", acrylic on canvas.
Today I've posted a painting that was created in 2007. I titled the painting "Coperta", which means blanket. Based on the colors and patterns of a Native American blanket. I was inspired to create this painting after attending the annual Little Big Horn Days in Hardin, MT. The annual celebration of the native Crow people and western heritage was really special. The colors and styles of the Crow Indian costumes, the dancing, the drum beat and singing were unforgetable. I used a texture technique to imply a feel of wood grain in the paint along with deep reds, rusts and tan earthy tones. This painting is now owned by a private collector in Sioux Falls, SD.

July 11th, 2009, "Hesper" 40"x30" acrylic on canvas

This is one of my favorite abstracts from my last series. "Hesper" is a 40"x30" acrylic on canvas. I found the sienna, red and white combination to be very striking. Black was added for contrast and bring out texture. As with most of the paintings, I "pour and pull" the paint with different tools, and basically let the paint itself do the work. It's an exciting way to paint because you never really know what you're going to get. This technique allows me to create a more organic and natural feel in my paintings. This painting is now owned by Al Rapacz of Billings, Montana. Happy to see my work settling in Big Sky country!:)

"Vibrant Summer" 20"x30" acrylic on canvas.
Today's posting is an abstract. This painting is part of my first series of abstracts. I don't use any brushes on these paintings. I mix the paint with a clear acrylic medium and drag the paint across the canvas. The acrylic medium gives the paint a transparent quality and I'm able to get a lot of beautiful variations in color as I add layer upon layer of paint.

"Fall Reds", 36"x 18" x 3/4", acrylic on canvas.
Today's painting is another landscape with some change in colors. In this painting, I've used bright reds and yellows in the sky and tree to give a nice warm atmosphere. This painting was created from memories I have while hiking east of my home town of Burke, SD. The rolling hills of the Missouri River can be seen in the background.
