Happy Friday! The weather this week has been absolutely beautiful here in Sioux Falls! The weekend should be nice as well. I felt like posting this painting today. It reminds me of my favorite time of year. This painting, like many of my landscapes was inspired by memories of hiking around my home town of Burke, SD in my younger years.
I remember one specific day, a warm autumn afternoon. I sat on the side of a hill under a large oak over looking a deep gully filled with fall colors. There was no wind that day, perfectly quiet and still. It was so quiet that my ears actually seemed to ring! Now and then I could hear squirrels running through the fallen oak leaves far away in the creek bottoms that surrounded me.
To this day, I have yet to experience that same kind of stillness when on hikes. I miss that country. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about it. The creeks and valleys filled with burr oak stretching for miles off the Missouri river beaks. I think I'll have to make a trip back home this fall. Just maybe I'll happen upon another perfect day again. A quiet time, in a quiet place.
Enjoy the weekend everyone! Thanks for stopping by.
Chad
