"A Quiet Place II" 24"x48" acrylic on canvas

Good day everyone. Kayla and I have Candy & Canvas up and running now. We've had a great month of December so far and new products are still coming in.

Now it's time to get back to my paintings. I'll be painting as much as I can to fill my gallery at the store. Since this is a "Daily painting blog" I feel I have a LOT of catching up to do!

Today's painting is entitled "A Quiet Place II". John and Beth at Piper Framing Gallery in Sioux Falls had this work in their gallery for a few months. It's now hanging in Candy & Canvas. This is an earlier piece I produce in a series last year. 24x48 and 1.5" thick. Very attractive piece and one of my favorite tree paintings. If your interested in this work, you can view it and many more at our store in Sioux Falls. 202 S. Phillips Ave. in beautiful downtown Sioux Falls.

New Store!

Hi everyone! I know I've been absent for a while on my blog. My wife Kayla have been busy working on our new retail store to open in November of this year. Candy & Canvas will be an old fashioned candy store combined with my own art gallery. Located at 202 S. Phillips ave. in downtown Sioux Falls, SD, the store will feature hundreds of different candies! Plus a myriad of unique gift ideas for anyone. My original art will hang throughout the store, plus a gallery to show larger format paintings. I'll have a working studio in the back with ample space for all my new ideas. We'll be posting updates along the way, so keep stopping back for more details. We'll also have a new Facebook Fan Page for the store where you'll be able to print coupons and see scheduled events.

It's a great time for downtown Sioux Falls. Many new business starting up around the same time we are. We look forward to being a part of downtown!

Hi everyone!
I've been super busy lately with a super secret project and haven't had time to paint or post. Sorry for the delays. I'll be releasing some news soon about a big project my wife Kayla are working on. It's been in the planning stages for over a year now. Events are falling into place now and things are going to start moving quickly within the next week. So keep checking in to see tidbits of what's happening....especially for those in the Sioux Falls area.

Got a LinkedIn connection request from an old pal of mine that I haven't seen for a while. John Radack and I worked together at Deals on Wheels magazine as graphic designers many, many years ago. John is a great art director and resides in the Minneapolis area. Please visit his site at http://radackjohn.carbonmade.com/ you'll probably remember some of the commercials he's directed! It was great to hear from him this morning. He turned me on to blues guitar many years ago, and soon after meeting him I purchased my first Fender guitar. John if you're out there...keep in touch bud!

Today's post is titled "Hidden City". Since I haven't painted in a week or so, I posted one of my more recent works. Promise to have some new stuff posted soon!

Thanks for checking in.

Hi everyone. What a great weekend! The weather is absolutely beautiful here. Cool and calm. Today's painting is titled "Carmel Planks". I wanted to post this painting again. Great colors and textures. This painting is at The Market on Phillips Ave. in Sioux Falls along with nine other originals. I had a show at The Market at the beginning of the month and Doug and Laurel were kind enough to let me keep them there for a while. Stop down sometime to The Market on Phillips Ave. and see what a great shop Doug and Laurel have. Huge selection of quality products. And, of course, you can see some of my recent originals!

August 28, 2009 Landscape "A Quiet Place"

Happy Friday! The weather this week has been absolutely beautiful here in Sioux Falls! The weekend should be nice as well. I felt like posting this painting today. It reminds me of my favorite time of year. This painting, like many of my landscapes was inspired by memories of hiking around my home town of Burke, SD in my younger years.

I remember one specific day, a warm autumn afternoon. I sat on the side of a hill under a large oak over looking a deep gully filled with fall colors. There was no wind that day, perfectly quiet and still. It was so quiet that my ears actually seemed to ring! Now and then I could hear squirrels running through the fallen oak leaves far away in the creek bottoms that surrounded me.

To this day, I have yet to experience that same kind of stillness when on hikes. I miss that country. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about it. The creeks and valleys filled with burr oak stretching for miles off the Missouri river beaks. I think I'll have to make a trip back home this fall. Just maybe I'll happen upon another perfect day again. A quiet time, in a quiet place.

Enjoy the weekend everyone! Thanks for stopping by.

August 26th daily painting post. "Rustic Hues"

$200.00
Good day everyone. Today's painting is titled "Rustic Hues". 20"x30" acrylic on canvas. This is one of my early paintings. Painted this in the fall of '07. This was part of a 20 piece series. I had just lost my job, and while looking for further employment, I started painting.

These early works are still some of my best. I think the emotion and stress from that time in my life really helped create some great work. Painting was a release for me then. Now it's a part of my daily life and a new way to express myself. No barriers, no looking back, just freedom.

Thanks for checking in! See you all tomorrow.

August 24th, 2009. "Amber Mode" 40"x30"

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend. Today's painting is titled "Amber Mode". 40"x30" acrylic on canvas. Vibrant gritty combo. Really like the way this painting looks in a room!

I'm now working on 3" deep frames. I'm building large format frames that will be gallery wrapped. Also working on finding studio space large enough to paint these larger formats. Can't wait to start posting this new series of paintings!

Also have a duck stamp painting ready to ship to Nevada for their state competition. 12"x 9" acrylic on panel. Placed ninth last year with a pair of Canada geese. This years entry is a drake Northern Shoveler. Hope to place better this year. Judging begins in November.

$250.00
Hi everyone! Today's painting is titled "Midnight Run". 36"x18" acrylic on canvas. Lot of colors in this pour. I'm starting to lean more toward a three color pallet when painting abstracts. It's easy to overdue a painting with to many colors. I've lost a few paintings doing this in the past week. Had to paint over them. This one, on the other hand seemed to work for me. Something about the oranges, blues and greens that worked. I really like working in this format as well. The 36"x18" seems to fit in many locations of a room.

I'm working on my landscape and tree paintings as well. I plan on having some completed this weekend for posting.

Thanks for checking in, see you all tomorrow!

Good day folks! I'm back after a weekend of fighting a late summer cold. Didn't get a lot done besides watching movies and drinking cough syrup! Today's painting titled "Sand To Sea" is a large 48"x24" abstract. My lovely wife Kayla named this painting for me. Her encouragement and support keep me focused. We sat in my studio last Friday night (before the cold bug got to me) and chatted the night away while this painting came to life. I limited my colors to a basic three color pallet. I can't get enough of the blue/sienna combination!

Thanks for checking in.

Watch The Pianos

August 13th, 2009. "Boogie Woogie Time Machine"

Good day everyone. The South Dakota Symphony "Season of the Piano" campaign has started this week. So now I can post my contribution to the campaign!

Today's work is title "Boogie Woogie Time Machine". Eight artist from the Sioux Falls area were recruited to paint nine donated pianos to introduce the South Dakota Symphony's 2009-2010 season. Here you see my piano from the beginning and then the final painted piece. You can view all the other pianos, as well as artist bios at the SD Symphony web page. What a fun project to be involved in!

I'd like to thank Michelle Lavalee and Bethany Rasmussen with the SD Symphony for giving me the opportunity to participate in this project. And all their hard work organizing and putting this campaign together.

I'd also like to thank my co-workers Russ McKnight for his leadership, Jamey Zerr for his excellent web skills in designing the Symphony piano pages on short notice, and Doug Murano for his work shooting video, and great interview and writing skill collecting bios and other info on all the artists who painted pianos. What a great crew to work with.

Please visit the SD Symphony piano pages to see all the pianos and artist bios! And, if you have your picture taken with all nine pianos, you can receive two free symphony tickets! Check it out!

See you all tomorrow.

August 6th, 2009. "Thought Drops" 30"x20"

$200.00

If you're in the Sioux Falls area, don't forget to come down to The Market on Phillips Ave. this Friday, August 7th from 5pm to 7pm. Stop in and see all the great wine and products that Doug and Laurel have in their store! And I'll have ten of my recent originals for sale. Hope to see you all there for downtown First Friday!

Today's painting is titled "Thought Drops". 30"x20", acrylic on canvas. Yesterday I had lunch with some co-workers. Doug Murano, a great writer and good friend, was telling a story about how he was inspired to become a writer as a young boy. After picking up a copy of Stephen King's "It" at a garage sale, he read the book and was hooked. He knew he wanted to be a writer at that point in his life.

Doug is a writer now, and a good one. In our creative meetings, I love listening to him patch together multiple streams of thought into one big idea. He's always thinking about his work and loves what he does.

I went home last night and painted "Thought Drops" with this in mind. The swirling tidbits of thought and emotion pass though our mind every day. And with a little creativity and passion, they can merge to become something beautiful. Here's to you buddy. Keep up the good work!

See you all tomorrow.

Today's painting is titled "Migration". 30"x20". This painting has a great amount of fluid pour technique and high contrast. I love working in this technique. About 1 of every 4 paintings that I use this technique on are ever kept. Sometimes they work out, other times they have to be painted over. If you look close at this work, the color blends from the liquid are really crazy. Fun painting to do! If interested, contact me at chadlubbers@gmail.com.

I'm painting trees today. Miss that look and I know many people want to see some more. So, I'm taking a break from the pours and going back to my plank and tree styles for a while. Can't wait. I have a lot of great ideas I have to get on canvas.

This week I'll be painting my daily work, and I'll be getting ten pieces ready to a show at The Market this Friday night. This Friday is "First Friday" in downtown Sioux Falls. Doug and Laurel at The Market have invited me to show some of my work. They offer a wide variety of great wine, plus a myriad of other unique products!
